The area

Portocolom is situated in the southeastern part of the Spanish island of Majorca. Far away from mass tourism, the former fishing village, which belongs to the municipality of Felanitx, with its approx. 4.000 inhabitants, is considered a good place for holidaymakers looking for relaxation and peace. The original character of the old Majorcan fishing village has been preserved, although the number of visitors increases every year. Many inhabitants of Portocolom still earn their living from fishing. The bay of Portocolom has the largest and most famous natural harbour of the Balearic Islands. Although it is now mainly used for private boat traffic, it is still one of the most important fishing ports in Mallorca, which helps the notoriety of Portocolom's fish restaurants. The town is divided into an old town area (port), which is considered to be one of the best preserved old towns on the island, and a residential area (around Cala Marcal).
